Elfriede Caroline Hanisch Schildwachter, beloved wife of the late Daniel A. Schildwachter, Jr. was received into the Church Triumphant on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Elfriede, originally from the Bronx, New York, was born June 27, 1926, baptized July 25, 1926, and confirmed in the faith on May 11, 1942.

Elfriede is survived by two nieces: Lorraine (Richard) Piccininni, and Susan (Carl) Germano; one nephew: Martin (Grace) Hanisch; six grandnieces and grandnephews; five great grandnieces and great grandnephews; two step daughters: Lois (Richard) Kane and Amy Schildwachter; two step sons: Daniel (Ellen) Schildwachter III...

Elfriede is survived by two nieces: Lorraine (Richard) Piccininni, and Susan (Carl) Germano; one nephew: Martin (Grace) Hanisch; six grandnieces and grandnephews; five great grandnieces and great grandnephews; two step daughters: Lois (Richard) Kane and Amy Schildwachter; two step sons: Daniel (Ellen) Schildwachter III and Paul (Jenifer) Schildwachter; seven step-granddaughters, ten step-grandsons and twenty step great-grandchildren.


In addition to her husband, Elfriede was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Julia (Westermann) Hanisch; one brother and one sister-in-law Martin and Bernadette Hanisch.

Elfriede was a successful business woman. She was the co-owner of Pure-Air Oil Company in the Bronx until she went to work for Schildwachter Fuel Oil in the early 1990's.

She will be remembered as a truly generous and faithful lady.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, 824 Scarsdale Avenue, Scarsdale, New York on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Visitation times 2:00 -4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm. A service of celebration of Elfriede's life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 25 Crane Road, Scarsdale, New York beginning at 10:30am. Interment following the service at White Plains Rural Cemetery, 167 North Broadway, White Plains, New York.
